It turned out that our room was directly beside the main walkway for staff, on our first morning I was greeted by a parade of waiters making their way to serve breakfast.
On our day off we went exploring at the far end of the island and discovered a beautiful estate that once belonged to Huntington Hartley. It is now a part of the One and Only Resort but his gardens stretch beyond their boundaries and were created in the style of the Versailles courtyards and goes from the Bay to the Ocean. Stunningly beautiful and haunting it is full of stepped gardens and sculptures that were very romantic and Victorian in theme. Hannah and I took photos tuning in to the spirits of the women that were abandoned on the island as their men left of journeys overseas... The pillow on my bed is cold, My man is gone, so I've been told The seas have kept him for their own my man, my life, my love, my home.. I fear the loss but hope resides in my heart I am still his bride I call to sirens, seducers in sea you set my lord and lover free I was his star in the sky at night I was his joy, his song, his light I can raise my voice in prayer I can call him back from there.. Along the River Khahn of Danang Kids Da Nang Kids Day Out This clever organisation calls itself a club and what it does is provide volunteer tour guides to visitors so they can practice their English. All you have to do is pay for their expenses, like petrol and food, and they don't eat very much. I think it is good to give extra , even though they say you shouldn't you can find a way.. Today my Da Nang kid Khanh took me all over the Hoi An area, into back road, off the beaten tracks, down a side street to a wedding, onto the beach and along the river.. We had a great day speaking English and making jokes..Khanh's English is good and he is studying at University majoring in business. Da Nang Kids is a very good idea, especially when you see how much Hoi An is tourism driven it is great to be somewhere without a lot of others... Which by the way Australians..some of you need to wash your mouths out with soap, the 'f' word is not a common adjective in other languages!...
The evening with Lilli could not have been finer, she is an excellent cook, serves a beautiful meal with delicious wine and is a great host..she inspired me, as did her home and her kitchen implements! The next morning I was off at six am through the already bustling streets in a taxi to the airport. Check in was fine, plane arrived on time, sat next to a lovely man, a teacher from Belgium, who made me focus less on the stress of the connecting flight..which despite the luggage taking ages and getting into a bit of panic I made in plenty of time. Bella exhausted and happy was there too and we boarded our flight, as planned all along, to return to Bali after our individual adventures. We were headed straight for the taxi booth when the open arms of Stuart embraced us both and before we knew what was happening we were being chaperoned out of the chaos of the airport, into his car and off to dinner at Kaizan! A fine welcome home indeed, only to be almost matched by the sheer excitement of...
