Friends re-united

Nine women, all graduates of the same high school, some of us haven't seen each other in a very long time, and yet here we are and what is wonderful and strange and again not so strange after all because essentially we haven't changed!
There was not a moment of awkwardness and we all agreed on one thing very strongly. We got possibly the worst education a girl's only high school could provide and yet despite this we all went on to succeed in life, each of us gaining satisfaction and success in our chosen paths. High achievers, all of us independent earners we have all learned how to make the most out of life and enjoy the journey. Juliet and Anne drive sports cars as we knew they would, Charlotte owns a yacht, some of us have children and others do not, the ones who seemed the worst suited to school are now working in education, and others are managing soccer players, running departments in the health authority or have a PhD in provision of health care systems. Some of us are divorced, some of us never married, more than a third are with their original spouses..we are the product of the times. We grew up on David Cassidy and moved onto Hawkwind, Focus, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. We saw Led Zepplin, David Bowie and Yes. We wore flares and floaty dresses and platform clogs, we dyed our hair with food colouring and wore blue eyeshadow like paint. We are the children of the Seventies, we came from a world that was opening its mind to all sorts of possibilities and social revolution, and from parents who where trying their best to protect us from this invading changing world. Our careers advisor hadn't even heard of the jobs half of us are doing now and even if she had would have done her best to talk us out of doing them. We were being groomed as intelligent spouses and sensible mothers in a system that was as archaic as the buildings in which we were housed. On Saturday we celebrated the strength of friendship and the advent of facebook that allowed us, or more accurately, Anne to track us all down and organise us into a very long lunch! Thanks to you all
